Way Maker & Two Baby Boys

Posted

Few songs have ever overwhelmed as many followers of Christ worldwide, with inspiration and encouragement, as Sinach’s “Way Maker”. It is safe to say that since it’s release in December of 2015, Way Maker has taken the body of Christ around the world by storm. God has used one of His Nigerian daughters to turn Christendom upside down for His glory.

Recently, as I was preparing a sermon on the Scriptural basis of Way Maker, two baby boys filled my mind and heart as perfect examples of the message of the chorus.

“Way Maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, my God, that is who You are.”

The first of the baby boys is Joash, also known as Jehoash; his story can be found in 2 Chronicles 22:10-23 and 2 Kings 11:1-21. To fully appreciate his connection with Way Maker, it is necessary to jump back in time about 100 years, to 2 Samuel 7:11-13, God’s promise to David. “The Lord declares to you that the Lord himself will establish a house for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever.” God promised David that one of his descendants would ALWAYS rule Judah. But God and His reputation as a “promise keeper” were put on trial when Joash was born.

And evil woman, Athaliah, arose who thought she could destroy God’s promise to David by slaughtering every male descendent of David and usurping the throne of Judah. However, she missed one newborn baby boy, Joash, who would prove that God is always the “promise keeper” and that no one can stop Him.

Using his aunt and uncle, Jehosheba and Jehoiada, God proved Himself to be the ultimate “miracle worker”, who would rescue Joash by hiding him for seven years on the Temple grounds. Then on his eighth birthday, Jehovah would display for all of Judah to see, that He and only He, could and would always bring “light in the darkness”, just as He had promised. Jehovah God Almighty: “Way Maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, my God, that is who You are.

But it wasn’t the last time that God chose to use a baby boy to prove that He is always the supreme “Way Maker.” Eight centuries later, a baby boy was born in a stable, who once again was the living proof that God is always the “promise keeper.” He too had a wicked ruler with a murderous heart and an assassination plan to destroy God’s promise. He too was then rescued by heaven’s “miracle worker” by hiding Him, this time in Egypt. And then He became the one and only divine “light in the darkness.” His name was Jesus. Once again every child of God could shout: “Way Maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, my God, that is who You are.

The Bible is full of examples in history where God proved Himself to be the “Way Maker”, the “miracle worker”, the “promise keeper” and the “light in the darkness”. Those examples are there for your encouragement and mine too. So choose to spend some time in God’s Word every day and let those other examples thrill your heart, just like the two little boys. That is why every follower of Christ can loudly sing these words of praise: “Way Maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, light in the darkness, my God, that is who You are.” God bless.
