The White Deer ISD Board of Trustees met in regular session on Wednesday, August 30th, 2023.
Josh Cook spoke during open forum about the procedures of the elementary school lunch. Jill Pohlmeier spoke about the Elementary school day. Amanda Hillhouse also spoke during open forum about the elementary school day. Cerelle Oseguera talked about assigned seating plan during lunch and recess.
A public hearing was conducted on the 2023-2024 proposed budget and tax rate. The board took action to approve the minutes of the July 17th 2023, meeting. Juliana Sirmans gave a presentation to the board about her representing Carson County in the Miss United States Agriculture program. Juliana is requesting the school sponsor/donate to create an Ad Page to help pay her way to the Texas Miss United States Agriculture state pageant in November.
The board moved to approve the 2022-2023 final budget amendments. The Board also moved to approve the 2023-2024 Budget for the general fund, food service, and debt service at the function level. The board approved a maintenance and operation tax rate of $0.7388 and a principal and interest on debts of $0.278943. The approved total rate will be $1.017743. The board reviewed and accepted the proposal for property and casualty coverage from Insurica. The board had a discussion on the Student and Employee handbooks. The board also took action on the resolution regarding armed security officers, and approved an alternate method approved through the state. White Deer ISD will now be a guardian school and have personnel on each campus armed and willing to protect students and staff if the need arises. The board heard reports from the principals and directors of the school district, reviewed the Business Manager’s report, and received an update from the Superintendent. The board went into closed session. After closed session the board approved the guardians who were presented in closed session and also approved a stipend for each guardian in the amount of $1,500. The Board adjourned at 9:05.
