A Little Kindness Goes A Long Way

The Hangout, Lefors’ hot spot for kids and teens to play games, read books, or buy yummy snacks, received an incredible donation from Pampa Furniture Exchange & Mattresses too: an NBA Jam Arcade Machine!

Richard Clemens, the Owner of the Pampa Furniture Exchange, explained why he and the company decided to donate an arcade machine to The Hangout.

“The Hangout is hosting a cornhole tournament and they had been looking for donations,” Clemens said. “At that time, I didn’t know what to donate. Eventually, three boys from Lefors came into the store and asked if they could play on the arcade machines. They were very nice and respectful. They played until closing time.”

It was at that point that Clemens called the owner of The Hangout, Jennifer Lock Shepard, and asked if they could donate an arcade machine.

“It was a total surprise,” Shepard said. “They called me and said that they wanted to donate to The Hangout.”

Clemens elaborated on his reason for giving back to the community.

“We always try to support the school and local businesses around town,” Clemens said. “We want to give back where we can and a lot of that time, it’s for the kids. We think it’s cool that The Hangout provides a safe place for the kids to have fun.”

The Hangout will be hosting its first cornhole tournament on April 15th at 11 am in the Lefors High School Activity Center on 209 East 5th Street. The money raised in this event will go toward making The Hangout a non-profit organization. There is a $50 registration fee per team. The top three teams to win the cornhole tournament will receive a 50 percent payout along with prizes. As well, a silent auction filled with high-quality items will be occurring during this time.

The Hangout is still seeking donations of hamburger buns and individually bagged chips for the cornhole tournament.

To register a team, go to scoreholio.com or call The Hangout at (806) 835-0885 for registrations or donations.
