Al Couch, 70, of Pampa, passed away on December 27, 2023, in Pampa.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel with Pastor Rick Pearson, an associate minister at Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory. 

Al was born on August 25, 1953, in Amarillo to Lyndell and Thelma Couch. He grew up and attended school in Plainview. After high school, Al entered the job force as an iron worker; a career spanning many years, and states that included Oregon, Nevada, and Texas. While working in Pampa he met the love of his life, Mary Whinery and they wed in 1979 and they shared right at 42 years she preceded him in death in 2021. Al also worked construction in Pampa at Sawatzky Construction for a few years and he was also employed at Pampa Oilfield Supply, McJunkin, B & B Solvent, and Al would retire from Bourland Leverich.

Al appreciated fast cars and motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons and found enjoyment working on them in his spare time. He also liked to watch football and enjoyed watching the Oklahoma vs. Texas games with sons. Al was a man’s man and a Jack of all trades so to speak. He was outgoing and was usually the life of the party. Al was known as a free spirit and would help anyone in need. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Al was also a believer in Christ and was baptized on March 13th, 2016. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his wife; and his in-law’s, Orville and Alice Whinery.

Al is survived by a daughter, Bernice Owens of Lubbock; three sons, Allen Couch of Plainview, Brock Couch and wife, Jade of Dallas, and Alex Couch and wife Yani of Pampa; grandchildren, Valarie Owens, Vanessa Owens, Caraline Couch, Corbin Couch, Caelan Couch, Christopher Couch, Aubrey Couch, Liam Couch, and Declan Couch; sister, Diane Paytas of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters-in-law, Linda Crocker and husband Dwight, of Pampa, and Barbara Owen of Amarillo; two brothers-in-law, Johnnie Whinery and wife Pam, and Orville Whinery, Jr. and wife Robin, all of Pampa; and other extended family.
