Alvin Lee Helms, 87, of Pampa passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2021, in Pampa.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 23, 2021 at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Bishop Drew Jennings, Bishop of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Pampa Ward, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Alvin was born in McAlester, Oklahoma on October 11, 1934 to Jake and Ada Helms. He attended schools in Bugtussle and Crowder, Oklahoma. On December 20, 1954, he married the love of his life, Wilma Estes. They moved to Pampa in 1955, where Alvin worked for Wagner Well Service. He worked as a superintendent and stayed with the company from 1960 to 2000. A few years later, he started working for SWM and was employed there for nearly 10 years. He officially retired in 2014, but retirement never really suited him. He was constantly doing something and could never sit still.

Alvin absolutely loved to fish, often traveling to Lake Eufaula in Oklahoma to fish. When he wasn’t fishing, he was doing yard work at the house. He also loved to spend time with family. Alvin was a member of the Masons and the Shriners. He was also raised as a Baptist and had a deep relationship with the Lord.

Alvin is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wilma; son-in-law, James Bye; two sisters, Inez Bourland and Pearlene Cathey; four brothers, Ray Helms, Finis Helms, Floyd Helms, and Paul Helms; and granddaughter, Mandy.

He is survived by two daughters, Glenda Bye and Debra Thomas and husband Tim, all of Pampa; one son, David Lee Helms of Pampa; six grandchildren, Chad and wife Melita, Tina, Clint and wife Jessica, Holly, Justin and wife Heidi, Junia and husband Jeff; three great-grandchildren,  Austin, Addison, and Kristen.
