Bertha Mae Irene Dowdy

Bertha Mae Irene Dowdy, 76 years of age, of Pampa, slipped from this life into her eternal resting place on Saturday, November 14, 2020 surrounded by her precious family. She was born on May 3, 1944 to Jessie and Corine Dowdy in Paris, Texas.

Being born the baby girl of the family, it goes without saying that she was a bit spoiled, not to mention, a daddy’s girl, of which she took much pride. She attended Carver school of Pampa and eventually began working in housekeeping at the old Highland General Hospital, then Pampa Regional Hospital for many years before retiring from Titan after 15 years, during which time she also volunteered at the Southside Senior Citizen Meals on Wheels. Although she had many priorities in her life, honoring and serving God remained of utmost importance to her. Bertha attended New Hope Baptist Church. God blessed her with an amazing voice, and she enjoyed singing in the choir. She had extraordinarily strong family values and loved her family unconditionally; however, she was also very outspoken and wasn’t afraid to set one straight if she didn’t agree. Bertha was sassy, a diva, loved to go shopping, dancing and even fishing. She was skilled in sewing and made family members blankets. She loved the sparkle and smell of new cars; she took much joy in being out and about rather than cooped up in the house and she looked forward to traveling any opportunity that she got. Bertha had an amazing zest for life and spread her happiness and cheer whenever she could. Her sassy demeanor will be missed greatly.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Rhonda Dowdy, Evone Dowdy; four siblings, Jessie Cox, Bertha Dowdy Osborne, Lucious Dickens, Dowell Jackson, Bobby Dowdy, Leo Dowdy and John Dowdy.

Those she has left behind to carry on her legacy are two sons, Meryl Dowdy and Cecil Dowdy both of Pampa; brother, Carl Dowdy of Kansas City, MO; ten grandchildren, Montra Jackson, Trovonte Dowdy, Jonathan Butler, Martin Caldwell, Ashley Brown Dowdy, Aubrei Dowdy, Casine Dowdy, LaDell Dowdy, Kimberly Dowdy, Trinity Dowdy; four special nieces, Donna Williams of Pampa, Darlene Green of Moore, OK, Anna Hunnicutt of Pampa, Doris Britt of Pampa; her sweet puppy, Suzie and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

As to honor Ms. Bertha’s wishes, there will be no funeral services. The family has entrusted the cremation care of their loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
