Breakfast Comes to Jay’s Drive Inn

What better way to ring in the new year than to hear that Jay’s Drive Inn, a Pampa hometown staple, has decided to add breakfast to their menu after 75 years?

Jay’s Drive Inn will offer their breakfast menu starting January 2, Monday through Friday from 6 AM to 10 AM.

While the idea had been floating around for quite a while, the staff of Jay’s thought now was a good time to fulfill the dream of previous owner, Mitford “Dwight” Dennis.

“When Dwight was still here, that was something he wanted to do and it was a goal of his for us to do breakfast. Unfortunately he passed before he could see that come to fruition, but we’re definitely trying to make him proud and do what he wanted,” said Schanta Martinez, an employee who has worked for Jay’s for a year.

The staff did a trial run for a week before fully adding breakfast to their regular menu and the results proved that the idea will be a success.

“We’ve had a lot of good feedback on it, so we’re excited,” said Martinez.

While Jay’s Drive Inn is famous for their Superdogs and Homestyle burgers, their variety of fresh, made-to-order breakfast items with prices that can’t be beat will be on the lips of their customers, familiar and new.

Throughout the years and with the changes that time usually brings, Jay’s Drive Inn has always maintained that community-based, small town atmosphere that makes home feel like home.

The biggest element that makes up that atmosphere is the love for those who have come and gone; customers, employees, and owners alike.

On the wall next to the door hangs a clock containing the inspirational Footprints story, frozen in time.

“That clock right there was Dwight’s and when we were told of his passing, we took the batteries out of it so that time is always displayed,” Martinez said.

That love and sentimentality is reciprocated back to the community in the best way possible: through great food and friendly service and because of that, it’s no wonder that Jay’s Drive Inn has been going strong for so long.
