Cristina Avila

Cristina Avila, 59 years old, of Pampa, left this life to be completely healed and free from pain in her new heavenly home on Wednesday, November 4, 2020.  She was born on July 21, 1961 in Jimenez, Chihuahua, Mexico to Bernardino and Raquel Hernandez.

She met her companion, rock and best friend, Martin Avila, in 1977 and they courted for five years before marrying on November 9, 1982.  Both she and Martin enjoyed experiencing life together which enabled her to partake in one of her most favorite things, traveling.  She absolutely loved to ride for hours in a car while gazing at the beauty of God’s creation.  Cristina was very spiritual, had an undoubtedly strong faith in Christ and a positive attitude, not to be confused with her very outspoken and opinionated personality!

Being the mother of 9 children and 4 foster children, God blessed her with extreme patience and the ability to handle chaos.  Cristina was her children’s #1 fan no matter what.  Win or lose, she always saw a winner through her eyes.  She was her kids’ best friend, but also extremely strict (at least with the first 4).  Eventually, grandbabies came along, and she was smitten!  Cristina would have kept them all the time if allowed.

God blessed Cristina with numerous talents such as crafting, painting, drawing, and cooking.  Her tamales were amazing and a favorite of many, but she could cook just about anything she set her mind to.  Two pastimes that she was deeply passionate about were attending the movie theater and the Dallas Cowboys (or maybe more so Tony Romo).  She even painted the outside of her house and her bedroom Dallas colors.

Cristina had many remarkable qualities – her uncanny ability to help in any given situation, the unconditional love shown to others, her supportive nature, and her devotion as an awesome wife and cherished mom.  She will be missed by all those who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernardino and Raquel Hernandez.

Those she has left behind to carry on her legacy are her devoted husband, Martin Avila of Pampa; 13 children, Tony Avila and wife Tonya of Fort Worth, Sonia Ysaguirre and husband Sebastin of Amarillo, Abraham Avila of Virginia, Ruth Hernandez and husband Ernesto of Austin, Martin Avila, Jr and wife Jessica of Fort Worth, Miriam Avila of Missouri, Amos Aron Avila of Lubbock, Moses Avila, Jeremiah Avila, Emilio Tierrablanca, Emiliano Tierrablanca, Mateo Tierrablanca, Sofia Tierrablanca all of Pampa; brothers, Nathan Hernandez and wife Jamie of St. Louis, Missouri, Joel Romero of North Carolina, Angel Hernandez and wife LaRaye of Dublin, Texas; sisters, Raquel Sanchez and husband Erby of Midland, Noemi Sifuentes and husband Daniel of Midland; 17 grandchildren, Julyan, Franco, Nathan, Sophia, Jacob, Isaiah, Nathaniel, Janessa, Noah, Malachi, Sara, Anthony, Christopher, Josiah, Leo, Skye, Bentleigh; 7 great-grandchildren, Davion, Jonah, Trinity, Anthony, Azriel, Jonathan and Jordyn.

Cristina will be available for viewing from 5 pm until 7 pm on Friday, November 6, 2020 at First Assembly of God Church, 500 South Cuyler Street, Pampa, TX 79065.

Celebration of Life Funeral Services are scheduled for 11:00 am, Saturday, November 7, 2020 at First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Ed Sattesahn and Reverend Cano officiating.  Burial will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery.  The family has entrusted the care of their precious loved one to Winegeart Funeral Home.
