DPS: One killed in two-vehicle crash outside of Stratford

A Michigan man was killed in a two-vehicle collision 12 miles northwest of Stratford on Tuesday morning.

At 5:30 a.m., a 2015 Peterbilt track-tractor, driving by Jennifer Ruddell, 44, Seagoville, was traveling north on United States Highway 287. A 2019 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Robert Hernandez, 42, Novi, Mich. was traveling south on U.S. 287.

The Malibu drifted into the center line in the northbound lane and struck the semi-truck head-on.

Hernandez was pronounced dead on the scene by Dallam County Justice of the Peace, Carol Smith. Ruddell was transported by ambulance to the hospital in Dumas with non life-threatening injuries.

Neither Ruddell’s passenger nor Hernandez’ two passengers were injured on the scene.

The crash remains under investigation. Information may change, be corrected, or added based on the investigator’s findings.
