Erma Lee “Nanny” Britten, 93, of White Deer, passed away peacefully at her home in White Deer on Sunday, December 5, 2021.

Vigil and Rosary will be 6:00 PM Friday, December 10, 2021 at Carmichael-Whatley Colonial Chapel.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 11, 2021 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in White Deer with Rev. Hrudaya Raju Kondamudi officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Erma was born September 14,1928 in Groom to Forrest and Montie (Dunn) Ritter. She attended Grandview and Pampa Schools. Erma helped farm with her dad when she was a young girl. She worked at Moses in Pampa and a jewelry store in Borger all while going to school. On January 18, 1950, she married the love of her life, James (Smiley) Britten; they celebrated 71 years of marriage before he passed away in June of 2021. Their first four children were born in Groom, Lynda, Nelson, Nicky, and Max. The family moved to White Deer in 1955, during this time their fifth child, Cindy was born. Erma worked at the Marie Foundation and White Deer School Cafeteria for several years. She was a lifelong member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. Erma enjoyed traveling and going to bingo halls with her husband, Smiley. She loved her Lord and her family dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Cindy Cooper; a son-in-law, Benny Cooper; three sisters, Norma Baxter, Lillie Carney, and Ina Brown; and a brother, Lilburn Ritter.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynda Paul of White Deer; 3 sons, Nicky Britten and wife Karen of Houston, Nelson Britten and wife Teresa of White Deer, and Max Britten and wife Sue of Olathe, Kansas; 2 brothers-in-law, George Britten and wife Janie of Groom and Melvin Britten of Duncan, Oklahoma; and a sister-in-law, Doris Britten of Amarillo. Erma was Nanny to her 9 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
