On Thursday, January 5, 2024 at approximately 6:15 PM, on US 87, approximately six miles southwest of Dalhart, Garrett Henderson, 19, of Farwell, Texas driving a 2017 Ford F-250 was traveling southwest on US 87 while Anna Agosto, 22 of Tuscon, AZ, driving a 2014 Nissan Altima, was traveling northeast on US 54.
Henderson was traveling at an unsafe speed for the roadway conditions (snow) and slid into the northeast-bound lane, striking the Nissan Altima.
Henderson’s passenger, Brett Jones, 23, of Stone Mountain, GA, was pronounced deceased on the scene by Hartley County Justice of the Peace Carol Smith.
Agosto was transported to Coon Memorial Hospital in Dalhart with non-life-threatening injuries.
Henderson was not injured.
All three were wearing their seatbelts.
The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Highway Patrol Troopers.
