The Fitness Chamber officially opened it’s doors to Pampa Monday, January 9th and immediately hit a milestone that owner, Ruben Chaves, was aiming for.

“We were offering a special to the first 50 members to sign up, with no sign up fee,” Chaves said. “Within that first day, we hit our mark and I couldn’t be more pleased.”
Chaves grew up in Liberal Kansas, but his parents moved to Muleshoe a few years ago and in his time visiting them, he realized while going through Hereford, they didn’t have a gym for the community.

“I wanted to bring them a place to work out and get in shape,” Chaves said. “Some friends I had in Hereford really encouraged me to do something so I opened it and it’s been phenomenal.”

Being in the business now seven years, Chaves was encouraged by friends in Pampa to venture out into a location here. After scoping out Pampa and seeing if the idea was viable, he settled on the 7,000 sq ft. facility that his now become the Fitness Chamber.

“I came to Pampa and I loved it here, there is already places to work out in Pampa though,” Chaves said. “I realized that there was still potential to offer another service for the people of Pampa.”

With over 30 different workout units, and more to come, the Fitness Chamber is currently the only gym in Pampa to offer an MMA room and a stair master.

“I’m pleased with the amount of things we have to offer already,” Chaves said. “But we definitely have more coming, and we’ll continue to upgrade over time.”

The name for Fitness Chamber came from a childhood love of Chaves.

“It’s unique, when I was younger I really enjoyed Naruto, and they have a place they work out in that had the word chamber in it,” Chaves said. “So I went through different phases of the name like ‘Strength Chamber’ or different variations of the name, but I decided Fitness Chamber was the best.”

The Fitness Chamber offers memberships for singles, couples and families. Rates vary for each package and by the length of the membership.

While living in Amarillo, Chaves travels to his gyms in both Hereford and now Pampa. When in the office, tours are always welcome for potential new members.

“I am always happy to give someone a tour of what we have to offer,” Chaves said. “Of course I’m biased about my own gym, but I want people to decide on their own.”

The office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 am till 5 pm, and Saturdays 8 am till noon. While the office does close, there is a 24/7 access privilege to members. The Fitness Chamber also offers day passes at $10 a day, or week passes at $25.

As part of his goal to get people fit and healthy, the Fitness Chamber sells nutrional supplements and pre-workouts in store for members to purchase.

The Fitness Chamber is located at 922 W 23rd Ave, and can be reached at (806) 910-6360. The official  page, The Fitness Chamber Pampa, posts updates on equipment and all things happening in the gym.
