Harvester Softball takes on Tascosa

Fresh off an Area Championship last year, the Pampa Lady Harvesters kicked off the 2023 season with a decisive win over Tascosa by a score of 12-1 at Lady Harvester field on Monday.

Pampa got off to a great start by scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Leadoff hitter, sophomore, Carsyn Hunt led off with a double. With one out, Sophomore Brianna Cloud also doubled putting runners at 2nd and 3rd. With 2 outs, Senior Hallie Hawthorne would reach on an error that scored Hunt from 3rd. Sophomore, Maecie Hawthorne then hit a single to score Cloud from third. Sophomore, Cassidy Stanhope , then hit a double that scored Hallie and Maecie. Reagan Dyer would then single to right field that scored Stanhope from second.

Pampa would add a run in the bottom of the 2nd. Cloud led off with a single, and took 2nd on a throwing error. Cloud would eventually score on two-out single by Maecie Hawthorne.

In the bottom of the 3rd, Pampa would add 3 more runs. Stanhope led off with a walk, Senior Reagan Dyer would reach on an infield single. Hunt would then single to left field scoring Stanhope from 2nd. Freshman Karina Gonzalez would draw a walk loading the bases. Junior, Kynleigh Kirby would single to center field, scoring Dyer and Hunt. At the end of three innings, Pampa would be on top by a score of 9-0.

In the top of the 4th Tascosa would add their only run of the game.

In the bottom of the 5th, with the score 9-1, Pampa would score 3 runs to end the game. Gonzalez led off with a single, and advanced to 2nd on an error by the center fielder. Cloud singled, scoring Gonzalez from 2nd. Kirby would get hit by a pitch. Hallie Hawthorne singled, scoring Cloud. Kirby would eventually score when the catcher tried to throw out Maecie Hawthorne stealing second base. The final score, Pampa 12 – Tascosa 1.

Hallie Hawthorne pitched 3 innings, giving up no runs on no hits, walking 4 and striking out 5. Kynleigh Kirby pitched 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 1 hit, walking 1 and striking out 2. McKinley Daniels also added a single. With the win, the Lady Harvesters move to 1-0 on the season. They will travel to Lubbock to play in a tournament this week, and will play against other varsity teams from Amarillo High, Midland Legacy, Lubbock Cooper, Frenship, El Paso Ysleta and Plainview.
