Lady Harvesters Beat Borger 8-2

The Pampa Lady Harvesters defeated the Borger Lady Bulldogs by a score of 8-2 at Lady Harvester Field on Friday afternoon. With the win, Pampa stays in a tie with Canyon for first place in District 4-4A. Canyon defeated Randall by a score of 13-3, knocking Randall into third place with two games remaining in district play.

In the bottom of the first Carsyn Hunt led off with an infield single, and McKinley Daniels followed with a bunt single, putting runners at first and second and no outs. Maecie Hawthorne grounded out to second base, but Hunt and Daniels moved to third and second base. Kynleigh Kirby singled to right field, scoring Hunt from third base.

Borger would tie the game at 1 in the top of the third inning, but Pampa would respond with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Hunt led off with a walk, Daniels bunted for a single, Hunt would advance to third and Daniels to second, on an error on the Borger first baseman. Maecie Hawthorne would then single to center field, scoring Hunt. With runners at second and third Kirby singled to center field, scoring Daniels, and moving Maecie Hawthorne to third base. Karina Gonzalez was brought into courtesy run for Kirby and would steal second base. Cambree Dyer would then hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Hawthorne and advancing Gonzalez to third base. Hallie Hawthorne would line a single to center field, scoring Gonzalez from third base. A sacrifice bunt by Cassidy Stanhope moved Hallie Hawthorne to second base. Reagan Dyer would then single to left scoring, scoring Hawthorne from second base, to round out the scoring.

Pampa would add a run in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Daniels lined her third hit of the game to center field and Maecie Hawthorne followed with a single to left field. Daniels would score on a throwing error by the catcher and Hawthorne advanced to third base on the same error.

Borger would add a run in the top of the fifth inning but Pampa would score one also in the bottom of inning. Hallie was hit by a pitch and Stanhope walked. Reagan Dyer sacrificed the runners to second and third. Briley Daniels then sacrifice bunted, scoring Hawthorne from third base.

Pampa would shut out Borger the rest of the way and earn the 8-2 victory. Kirby went the distance pitching seven innings, giving up two runs on four hits, striking out seven and walking two.

With two games to Pampa and Canyon are tied for first place at 10-2. Randall is in third place at 9-3 and Dumas is in fourth place at 8-4 and Borger falls to fifth place at 6-6. With the win, Pampa clinches at least a playoff spot, with the seeding still to be determined. If Pampa beats Canyon and Dumas next week, they would be the District Champions with a record of 12-2.

The district seeding is still very much to be determined. Pampa could win district with two more wins, or they could find themselves in second, third or even fourth if things don’t go their way down the stretch.

Pampa faces Canyon on Tuesday at 4:30 at Harvester Field, with the district lead on the line. Tuesday is also Senior Day, where the three graduating seniors will be recognized after the game. Pampa will complete the regular portion of district 4-4A play when they travel to Dumas on Friday afternoon. Final playoff seedings will not be determined until the final games of the season.
