Meals on Wheels open house celebration

Posted

Amarillo, TX – Meals on Wheels of Amarillo will be celebrating the dedication of their new building with an Open House on Tuesday, February 18th, from 4pm to 6pm, at their new location – 7550 Outlook Drive.

Both the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce and the Amarillo Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be on hand for ribbon cuttings at 4pm.  The public is encouraged to attend and help celebrate the move to the new building.  Hors d’oeuvres and drinks will be served following the ribbon cuttings.  Staff and board members will also be on hand to give tours of the new building, which wouldn’t have been possible without the support of donors and volunteers in the community.

We would especially like to recognize our major donors and foundations for helping make our new office building a reality:

• The M.S. Doss Foundation

• The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation

• Wayne and JoAnn Moore Charitable Foundation

• Amarillo National Bank/Ware Foundation

• The Meadows Foundation

• High Plains Christian Ministries Foundation

• Kimble Foundation Trust

• Josephine Anderson Charitable Trust

• Dr. Kent Roberts & Ilene Balliett Foundation

• Bruckner Foundation

• Dean Morrison

• Merrick Foundation

• Robert Hamilton

• Several major donors wish to remain anonymous

MOW Staff, Board members, volunteer drivers and some clients will be available for interviews following the ribbon cuttings.

Meals on Wheels of Amarillo was organized by twelve local churches in 1971 with 25 volunteers serving 14 elderly people. Today the program feeds over 270 elderly recipients through the support of over 395 volunteers. Meals on Wheels delivers hot, nutritious meals to the homebound elderly and severely disabled who are unable to prepare adequate meals for themselves. Meals on Wheels provides critical senior care by allowing the elderly to remain in their own homes, where they are happier and want to be, under the watchful eye of volunteers who care.
