Pampa came into Tuesday’s game tied for second-place with the Eagles. Pampa defeated Borger 14-0 in 5 innings thanks to the run-rule. Pampa had a down game and lost to Canyon 12-2 on Tuesday this week. Pampa’s regular season record now sits at 12-12 and 7-4 in district with three games remaining.

Borger

Before the game, Pampa’s seniors were honored. They are first baseman/pitcher Tyler Reed, catcher Michael Campos, and utility man/courtesy runner Brenton Stowers. Also being recognized was Harley Organ. He is the filmer in charge of all things livestream/at-bat clips.

Reed began the game on the mound and quickly sat the Bulldogs down in 1-2-3 fashion in the first with two strikeouts.

Pampa was ready to jump on the Bulldogs early and often. Sophomore Judsen Hancock led off the bottom of the first with a single. Campos reached on a bunt attempt via an error. Freshman Max Neff hit a fly ball to center to score Hancock and Stowers (he ran for Campos). Sophomore Brooks Barton walked and Freshman Jarren Hill reached on an error at first. Sophomore Zanden Salazar walked and Skinner singled on a line drive to left. After all of the action, Pampa led 4-0 after the first inning.

Reed continued to be very efficient with two more strikeouts in the second inning and not allowing any hits through two innings.

Reed helped his own cause with a double on a fly ball to left to start things going for Pampa in the second. Neff singled as well. Sophomore Isaiah Anguiano, who courtesy ran for Reed, ended up stealing home to score as the double steal was on during Barton’s at-bat. Pampa led 5-0 after two.

Reed walked the first batter in the third before getting the next guy to hit into a double play and striking out another batter to end the threat.

Things exploded in the third for Pampa. Freshman Boston Botello hit a pop fly and reached on an error by the first baseman. Salazar also reached on a bunt due to another error. Skinner walked and the bases were loaded. Hancock came up and smacked a single to left to score Salzar and Botello. Campos then hit a double to left to score Hanockc and Skinner. Reed hit another double as well to center to score Campos. Pampa now led 10-0. They were not done yet as Barton singled to right. Anguiano and Barton had a double steal going and that scored another run to make it 11-0 after three innings.

The first two Bulldogs got on base in the fourth before Reed struck out two batters in a row and got the final out via a ground out.

Pampa continued to pour it on in the fourth. Salazar singled to center. Skinner reached on an error by the first baseman. Hancock doubled on a fly ball to right to score Salazar. Stowers pinch-hit for Neff and was able to smack a single to second and score Hancock and Skinner on the play. Pampa led 14-0 after four complete innings.

Reed continued his dominant day on the mound with two more strikeouts and a fly out to win the game in five innings for Pampa. Final: Pampa 14, Borger 0.

Reed was steller in his outing. He only needed 78 pitches to pitch a complete game, five-inning shutout of the Bulldogs. He only allowed one hit and two walks. He also struck out nine batters and earned the win!

Hancock was 3-4 with a double and three RBIs and 3 runs scored. He also had a steal. Neff was 2-3 with an RBI and a run scored as well as 4 stolen bases. Reed was 2-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Botello had a single and a run scored. Barton had a walk, a single, a run scored and two stolen bases. Anguiano had a single, two runs, and two stolen bases. Stowers had a single, a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base. Campos had a single, two RBIS, and a run scored. Hill had a single. Skinner had a single, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. Salazar had two runs, a walk, and a stolen base

Canyon

While overall the game was one to forget for Pampa, there was some good action in the earlier innings. Barton got the start on the mound for the Harvesters. He was able to get a ground out and strikeout after a single started the game off. Campos threw to Skinner to catch a runner stealing for the third out of the inning.

Hancock and Campos both started off with walks in the bottom of the first. Reed got up and singled to center. The bases were loaded and it looked as if the Harvesters were ready for a big inning. Unfortunately, two ground outs quickly halted progress in the inning and Pampa trailed 1-0 after the first.

Barton hit the first batter and walked the second in the top of the second. The Barton to Reed to Hanock connection was able to catch another runner stealing for the first out. Pampa nearly snagged a double play as well when a ball was hit to Reed. Barton was able to record the third and final out of the inning with a strikeout.

Botello led off the bottom of the second with a single but again the Harvesters could not get multiple good things to happen and that inning ended quickly.

After a leadoff walk, Barton was able to sit down the next three batters in order to end any threat in the top of the third for Canyon.

Hancock singled to begin the third and Campos bunted him over. Once again, Pampa could not plate a runner before the third out.

The wheels started to come off for Pampa in the top of the fourth when Canyon was able to get the first three batters on via hit by pitch and walks. Then, the Eagles had a bases-clearing double and a sacrifice fly to make the score 5-0. Pampa still could not get an out as another walk and single led to another run scored. The Harvesters made a pitching change, trailing 6-0. Anguiano came in to pitch. After a walk, he was able to get the final two outs of the inning.

Pampa could not get anything going in their half of the fourth.

Canyon began the fifth with their hot hitting again. They had a single and a double to make it 7-0. After a walk and ground out the score was now 8-0. Anguiano did record a strikeout to end the top of the fifth.

Pampa went down in 1-2-3 order in the fifth.
