Chris Phillips, one of the coaches of the Pampa Knights Athletic Club, has announced that sign-ups for the summer track and field program are available. From now until April 15th, children ages eight to 18 can participate in this fun summer sport.

The Pampa Knights Athletic Club is the official athletic organization of Pampa that is part of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation. TAAF, which has been around for nearly a century, was created to promote, assemble, and host amateur athletics in the state of Texas. As such, the Pampa Knights Athletic Club are state certified and every coach that participates in the organization is heavily vetted.

Phillips described what new members can expect when they sign up for the summer track and field program.

“This program is here to provide  and build hard work ethic, self esteem, commitment, and teamwork,” Phillips said. “We are training kids to advance all the way to the Junior Olympics to compete against other athletes in the nation.”

Enrollment is open to any child in Pampa and the surrounding areas. The Pampa Knights Athletic Club has had members from White Deer, Skellytown, Wheeler, Shamrock, Lefors, and Borger.

“This track program is open for everyone,” Phillips said. “Anyone can do it and everyone is welcome to enroll.”

The Pampa Knights Athletic Club begins track and field practice in the middle of April which spans until June. During that month, the members will compete in track meets hosted in Texas.

“These track meets are for the kids to test their skill level,” Phillips said. “These track meets will prepare them to compete in regionals that are hosted in Lubbock.”
