Unveiling Of The Newly Remodeled Armory

The Armory has officially completed it’s remodel project. The City of Pampa purchased the building in 2012 which was formally the Texas National Guard Armory, the project has been in the work since the purchase of the building. Over the years, the city has done upgrades to the classrooms and restrooms in the building.

“This has been many, many years in the making,” Community Service Director, Dustin Miller said. “When I first got here in 2012, it was one the first projects I got put on, so we’ve been remodeling small things since then.”

The primary and final update to the building was adding HVAC to the facility. Formally, the building had electric/gas heaters but the summer time the building wasn’t safe from the heat. The addition of HVAC will allow renters to host events at a comfortable temperature. Additonally added was mirros into the bathrooms, a piece that was missing since the purchase.

“Even through renovations, we’ve never thought about changing the name,” Miller said. “Everyone knows where the armory is, it was an armory at one time so it makes sense.”

The completion project was approved by the city commission in 2022 as a capital expense for 2023. The process took time due to wait times for HVAC equipment and then going out for bids to do the job. The HVAC units were ordered in the summer of 2022 and just got in a month ago. The armory now features new lighting throughout the facility for any occasion, painting on the walls and ceiling and a barn door to consel the garage door.

“We thought the barn door would be a nice way to consel the garage door,” Miller said. “You can slide it out to open the door and then close it back so you don’t have to see that garage door in pictures. We also added a new ice machine, new refridgerator to the kitchen. We added signage which is something we’d never had. It makes it easier to find the building for someone that doesn’t know where to turn in.”

The pricing has only gone up slightly to cover the cost of the newly renovated building and all the amenities it has to offer. The pricing was approved by the city commission and is now in effect.
