Xcel Energy makes progress on outage restoration

AMARILLO, Texas – Xcel Energy crews have restored service to all but 3,000 customers in its Texas-New Mexico service area following Sunday’s high wind event.

Approximately 71,000 customers across the region were affected by the event, with 61,000 of those experiencing sustained outages.

“We appreciate the patience of our customers who were adversely affected by this powerful storm,” said Adrian J. Rodriguez, president, Xcel Energy – New Mexico, Texas. “This was an especially difficult situation for customers and employees alike. Our priority is keeping everyone safe while we work as quickly as possible to get everyone back in service.”

Up to 500 employees and contractors have been called upon to restore power, including crews from Colorado and Oklahoma. As of 11 a.m. Monday, Xcel Energy had identified 50 downed poles and 50 crossarms that were destroyed or damaged.

Of the 3,000 customers who remained without power at midday, 1,000 were in Xcel Energy’s New Mexico territory. Another 1,000 were without power in the Texas Panhandle with the remainder in the company’s South Plains region.
