With the closing of Doug Boyd Motors this past December, customers who still had business with Doug Boyd were unsure of what to do next. Xtra Auto who recently relocated to Hobart was blessed with the opportunity to take those customers in.

“Greg had talked about retiring for a while, and in August of this past year he came into my office and told me it was time,” Owner, Jeff Stevens said. “Before retiring he wanted to make sure his customers would be in the next best hands, so it was an honor to be able to take in those customers and bring them over to Xtra.”

While Xtra took over the customers still in business with Doug Boyd, the remaining inventory of the lot will be up for auction at a later date that has not yet been set. Stevens spoke on the transition for the customers, as well as the employees of Xtra.

“Greg’s number one concern was the well being of his customers,” Stevens said. “He really wanted to make sure they would be going to a place that could serve them at the level he had, so we’ve been taking this transition as smoothly as possible. So far, it’s been a good easy transition with the new influx of customers we now have. Along with his customers, Greg wanted to make sure Lucy would be taken care of.”

Lucy Arreola had been with Doug Boyd for over 14 years, and with the transition and changes has now come on full time at Xtra Auto to continue her role in serving the customers.

“This transition has been going well,” Arreola said. “It’s been a fun transition for myself moving here to Xtra, it’s a great work environment.”

Pampa News reporter, Valerie Gray spoke with Greg Boyd in December about the whole process.

“I played it ear by ear. I just didn’t want to stay too long,” Boyd said. “Anyone who has owned a small business knows that the business owns you. I’ve put a lot of thought and prayer into this decision ... I made the deal with Jeff around four months ago. My customers will have a place to go and it keeps it local”

So with the transition now complete, Xtra will continue serving their prior customers as well as the new additional customers from Doug Boyd, and a final fare-well from Greg Boyd.

“I’d like to thank my father. Without him, none of this would be possible,” Boyd said. “I’m so appreciative for my wife, Sandi, for putting up with me for 40 years. I’d also like to thank Jeff Stevens and his family for his help, as well.”
