Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Fairview Cemetery with Pastor Jamisen Hancock, pastor of Briarwood Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Ferrell was born May 22, 1940 on a dairy farm in Wheeler County to Doug and Oreta Baird. He graduated from Mobeetie High School in 1958. Ferrell was known as “speedy” to his teammates, as he was a great football player with the opportunity to go on to play college football. He declined the option to play college football to marry the love of his life, Barbara Revious. They married on June 4, 1958 and they celebrated 57 years of marriage before she passed away in 2015. Ferrell began his career with SPS in 1959, the same year they moved to Pampa. He was a hard worker and always had safety on his mind, not only for himself but his whole crew. In 2001, he retired after 42 years of service.

Ferrell loved sports and loved to coach. He was a member of Pampa Optimist Youth Club for many years, coaching baseball, football, and basketball. Ferrell also had a love for the Harvester. As his children grew up, he never missed a game. Ferrell continued that as his grandchildren played sports. His hobbies included hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling to Branson, Las Vegas, and Ruidoso. He was a member of Briarwood Church and years ago was a member of Knights of Pythias.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Zelma Jean Baird; brother, Gerald Douglas Baird; granddaughter, Autumn Darden; and great granddaughter, Everly Jade Rogers.

Survivors include his two daughters, Tambra McGuire and husband Dan of Pampa and Theresa Conner and husband Ray of Snyder; a son, Rick Baird and wife Lisa of Pampa; grandchildren, John “Trey” Rogers and wife Gina of Pampa, Hal Rogers and wife Jenny of Ropesville, Heath Conner of Midland, Jesse Conner and wife Megan of Snyder, Aaron Baird and wife Casey of Pampa, Lacey Crawford and husband Josh of Pampa, and Jad McGuire and wife Grace of Celina; great grandchildren, Clayton Rogers, Carson Rogers, Allie Rogers, Zoe Rogers, Landry Crawford, Lyla Crawford, Henry McGuire, Ozzy McGuire, Talynn Conner, Trace Conner, Bentley Baird, Aubrie Garza, Mya Baird, and Lilee Baird; niece, Alicia Snelgrooes and husband Steve of Pampa; and a nephew, Michael Lancaster and wife Kim of New Braunfels.
