James Larry Porton, 74, of Wheeler, Texas died Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in Amarillo, Texas.
Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Monday, December 18, 2023 in the Wheeler Methodist Church in Wheeler.
Cremation & Arrangements are by Robertson Funeral Directors of Wheeler.
Larry was born October 6, 1949 in Harris, Oklahoma to Billy and Marie Kirby Porton.
He married Carol Joyce Farley on September 23, 1972 in Idabel, Oklahoma.
He had been a resident of Wheeler, Texas since 1979. Larry served as a court reporter for 3 different district judges: Grainger McIlhany, Kent Sims, and Steve Emmert.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and enjoyed painting from his inspirations from Bob Ross. He was also quite the prankster and always enjoyed a good joke. He was also a Master Mason.
Larry was a member of the Wheeler Methodist Church where he served on various committees.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Larry Matlock; and a brother, Thomas Porton.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Porton of Wheeler; a son, Jason Porton and wife Meredith of Vega; a daughter, Christi Hatley and husband Wes of Clarendon; a brother, Bill Porton and wife Dana of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; a sister, Donna Lowrimore and husband George of Idabel, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Bryce Hatley and wife Sami, Jensen Hatley, Brock Hatley, Maddox Porton, and Graham Porton; one great grandchild on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be sent to Wheeler Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
