Janice “Jan” Faye Carter, 83, of Pampa, passed away on January 2, 2024 in Pampa.

Services are pending with Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Jan was born on May 23, 1940 in Crowell to James Arthur Jones and Loreta Faye Athey Jones. She attended school in Rolla, Kansas and at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Jan entered the workforce as a pumper for Mobil Oil where she worked for 17 years before retiring. She enjoyed being outdoors, rock hunting, gardening, and was involved with Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts as a den leader.

Jan married the love of her life, Neel Carter, on September 28, 1979 in Elkhart, Kansas. They have been side by side for 44 years with Neel being Jan’s caretaker for the last three years.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents; James and Loreta Jones; her son, Adam Neel Carter; and her brother, Freeman Jones.

She is survived by her husband, of 44 years, Neel Carter of the home; four daughters, Debbie Gallimore of Pueblo, Colorado, Cindy Jo Brunholtz of Albia, Iowa, Lorri Loeffelholtz of Fall City, Washington, and Angela Burgess of Chattanooga, Tennessee; two sons, Rick Claassen of Richfield, Kansas and Ty Lee Carter of Dalton, Georgia; 12 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild on the way; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
