Judith E. “Judy” Griffin, 82, of Pampa, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, September 24, 2023 in Amarillo.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum with Pastor Jimmye Cole, retired Nazarene pastor, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Monday, September 25, 2023 at the funeral home.

Judy was born in Covington, Kentucky on January 26, 1941 to Edwin Brant Purcell and Ruth Jenny Newlin Purcell. She grew up in Covington, Kentucky where she became a beautician, but not before serving her country during the Vietnam war. Judy was proud of her U.S. Army service and spoke fondly of her experiences and friendships.

After the war, Judy settled in Pampa where she enjoyed painting, sewing, knitting, and anything with puzzles or word games. She and her partner, Gary, loved to fish. She once caught a 10 lb. bass. The local Pampa newspaper featured a picture of the fish and despite numerous calls and inquiries, she never would reveal where she caught it. Judy was a proud member of the First Presbyterian Church of Pampa, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

Judy is survived by her life partner, Gary Hinds; sister, Nancy Crist; her seven children, Randy Wehrman and wife Denise, Kathy Lipps and husband Jeffrey, David Hugh Wehrman and partner Craig Hittie, Jenny Wehrman and partner Robin Holtman, Charles Wehrman, Judy Wehrman and spouse Greg Smith, Elizabeth Gray and husband Andrew Aguirre. Judy was also the proud grandmother of eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Ruth Purcell; and brother, Daniel Purcell.
